Like many westerners, I look up to Sweden as a beacon of progressive politics. I was surprised to learn that the country is one of the largest global exporters of weapons. So, it seemed logical that if I'm coming to Sweden, I should make a work about guns. Thinking about Swedish commerce, the first thing we Americans think of is IKEA. So I decided to create an installation of ikea gun boxes, complete with the iconic mechanical illustrations found on the boxes of any IKEA product.
